1. (a) Take ITX-Cheongchun Train from Yongsan Station to Gapyeong Station (55 minutes; 5,200W) or from Cheongnyangni Station to Gapyeong Station (40 minutes; 4,300W). Or,
(b) Take the normal subway from whichever nearest station & arrive at Gapyeong Station via Gyeongchun Line.
(Time and fare varies)
2. From Gapyeong Station, you could either opt for Gapyeong Tour Bus or Intra-City Bus or Taxi (5 minutes) or by foot (20 minutes) to get to Gapyeong Wharf (Nami Island). It’s about 1.9 km distance.
A sunny Day 3 in Seoul, which is not much of a coincidence as we checked the weather forecast, because today we are heading off to Nami Island.
We rose up pretty early to catch the train en route for Gapyeong Station. We opted for taking the ITX as it is more convenient and time-saving. We bought our ITX Train tickets at the ticket counter in Cheongnyangni Station. We had to get the standing tickets as the seating tickets were all sold off, so if you are not too keen to stand or sit on the floor for 55 minutes, you can pre-book your ticket online at ITX website. For tutorial on how to book, visit here.
We did not buy our tickets online as the weather forecast the week before was not very optimum, hence we decided to let the sun guide us, and as the trains travel hourly it seems like a good idea not to rush our way.
Right outside Gapyeong Station, there are taxi and tour bus stand that brings you to not only Nami Island but also Petite France and Garden of Morning Calm. We opted for the taxi instead of the tour bus this time as we planned to only visit Nami Island and the line to the bus is crazily long. Besides, the taxi fare to Gapyeong Wharf was only 4,400W.
Here is some info about Gapyeong Tour Bus for those that are interested:
- This tour bus stops at every Tourism attractions within Gapyeong area.
- Fare: 6,000W/adult. Tickets can be purchase from the bus driver upon boarding.
- Visitors can freely hop on and off the bus with the day ticket (make sure to keep track on their timetable to avoid extra waiting time/last bus etc).
When we arrived the wharf, the queue for the ferry was insanely long, the line was so long that it took us awhile to locate the ticket counter which is at a corner way up front. So we then quickly bought our ticket (entrance + ferry) for 8,000W/adult for foreigner and joined the queue. The ferry comes in 10-20 minutes interval and holds a large capacity of people, so we manage to get on board in 30 minutes.
Besides the ferry, you could also choose to zip line to the island and it costs about 38,000W/person which could be a much faster alternative.
Nami Island is truly beautiful place for all seasons. Autumn turns all the leaves into yellow, red and brown flowers falling down along the sway of cool autumn breeze. Besides, Nami Island is also well known as the filming location for the popular K-drama Winter Sonata.
Tip: Always check weather forecast before/during your trip & tweak around your itinerary and fit in the best sunny day for Nami Island to take lots of amazing photos! 😀
We had a wonderful time exploring the beautiful nature of Nami Island and to me it is one of the Must Go destinations in Seoul.
Later that, we took ITX and subway back to our hostel to have a lil’ rest before heading to dinner. Dinner for the night is another local favourite, Korean Army Stew @ Sim Seun Tang, Hongdae, which is located just right across our hostel.
The rice comes with a side of butter that you can mix with for extra fragrance, and the spicy, flavourful soup is just nice for a chilly night.
HAN RIVER – BANPO BRIDGE RAINBOW FOUNTAIN
Walk out of exit 8-1 at Express Bus Terminal Subway Station (Lines 3,7 or 9). Walk straight for 250m and turn right at the Express Bus Terminal 4-way intersection. Continue going straight for 400m and cross the street at the crosspark until you reach the underpass. Take the underpass to take the first exit. (takes about 20-30 minutes)
Anyone can recalls that this bridge rainbow fountain featured in K-Drama Boys Over Flower and Super Junior & SNSD – S.E.O.U.L Music Video?? Well…ME!
